Main duties of the job
The main duties and responsibilities of a Senior Staff Nurse on the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at UCLH are:>constantly strive to maintain a high standard of clinical skills, remaining up to date with changes to policies and procedures, disseminating this information to the team when necessary>being a role model and representative of the ward and the Trust>providing support and advice to students, colleagues, patients & carers and also the multi-disciplinary team>taking charge of the shift to ensure smooth day to day running of the ward>knowledge and understanding of nursing skill mix and requirements for running a safe shift both on T12 North and throughout the paediatric division>know the staffing escalation policy> Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework and make others aware of this>You will motivate colleagues, champion service user safety and dignity and drive continuous improvement

>The Teenage Cancer Trust unit at UCLH is a dynamic and fast paced environment, it is the largest TCT unit in Europe>There are 20 beds on the unit which provides inpatient treatment for chemotherapy for haematology and oncology patients, patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and other types stem cell therapy>We are able to provide the most up to date and groundbreaking cancer treatments available and have a strong link to research.>As of 2022 we are able to provide Proton Beam Therapy in a newly built facility>We are a very nurse- led unit so knowledge and skills are expected to be of the highest standard with the nursing team being strongly encouraged to continually further their knowledge and skills>We work closely alongside the medical teams to make decisions about patients care>As a team we ensure that the UCLH Trust values of Safety, Kindness, Teamwork & Improving are at the centre of all we do

Knowledge and Qualifications

- oRegistered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
- oAccredited mentorship course or willing to undertake
- oRelevant accredited clinical course (oncology/haematology 30 credits OR equivalent)
- oBSc or working towards
