Job summary

Would you like to develop a high level of skill and expertise to help people living with health problems, supported by a friendly andexperienced team?

We are looking for a newly or recently qualified Clinical Psychologist that we can develop and nurture into a confident practitioner in ClinicalHealth and Neuropsychology! The successful candidate will get the chance to gain expertise across a wide range of health conditions and neurological presentations, including functional neurological disorders.

You will be motivated to work psychologically in medical settings, and comfortable working at both a team and individual client level. Experiencewith clients in acute hospital settings, familiarity of psychological assessment and formulation in health care, as well as planning and delivering neuropsychological interventions would be an advantage.The post is based at The Old Chapel within a friendly and well-established Department of Psychological Medicine, but may involve travel to sites across the organisation. Our department has an ongoing commitment to flexible and hybrid working, so this post will include some home working.

Main duties of the job

The role will include direct clinical work - providing individual input to patients alongside providing advice and consultation to MDT colleagues, aswell as contributing to research, teaching and other duties as the post requires.

As a member of the department, you will be able to contribute to significant changes to the way that we deliver psychological care across ourservice, including the development of training for staff working in our wider MDT's, as well as the delivery of group programmes for patients.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, (or about to qualify) including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies as accredited by the HCPC.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of working with Clinical Health populations.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups.

Aptitude & personal qualities

Essential

  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to work as a team member and show flexibility and adaptability.
