Job summary

To carry out semi skilled tasks and support and assist trade staff toundertake routine maintenance, fault finding / repair and new workto give a safe and fit for purpose environment for patients, visitorsand staff.

Based at Westmorland General Hospital, however, in order to maintainessential services for which the University Hospitals of MorecambeBay NHS Foundation Trust has contractual responsibility, staff maybe required to work in other locations

Main duties of the job

To assist and support all trade craftsmen on all new and routine maintenance and repair tasks. To carry out planned preventative maintenance (ppm) / defect works autonomously in accordance with statutory requirements, technical guidance and codes of practice. To carry out basic fault diagnosis.

To carry out Estates Support Work across all trade groups in a safe environment and to a high quality. Applies to electrical, mechanical engineering and building services, plant, non-medical equipment and the full range of building fabric

To undertake general cleaning/tidying duties in workshops, plant rooms, stores, rest rooms, canteens and any other areas under the jurisdiction of the works department.

Staff will conduct risk assessments and complete action/treatment plans for all tasks as part of the training plan.

To carry out statutory testing to ensure compliance with insurance requirements, legislation and Health Technical Memorandum (HTM). Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Legionellae temperature testing etc. as required.

To work in hazardous / high risk areas on completion of suitable training, PPE, permit and authorisation

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Experience

Essential

  • demonstrate previous experience in a maintenance support role within an engineering or building field

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 or other recognised foundation qualification in maintenance
  • sound academic demonstrative qualifications
  • driving license
  • must participate in an ongoing training development programme within NHS maintenance services

Desirable

  • Portable appliance testing qualification
  • risk assessment certification
