Job summary

This Fixed Term post at the Queen Elizabeth is an ideal opportunity to for an experienced O&G Registrar (ST5-7 level or equivalent) to develop a special interest in Gynaeoncology. This role would be ideal for those seeking an OOPT opportunity, or develop specialist skills post-CCT. Previous registrar level experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology is essential. Understanding of service delivery with an NHS environment will be crucial to success, and therefore previous UK experience is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in the 1:8 full shift Registrar rota providing cover for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a three-tier system. The on-call team includes a Senior House Officer (two SHOs 0800-1700; 12:00 - 20:30), two registrars and a Consultant. The consultant is resident from 0800 - 2000 to support high-quality care and outstanding training opportunities. There is a separate dedicated consultant to provide emergency gynaecology care 0800 - 1700 Monday to Friday.

There will be elective work including, but not limited to: specialist antenatal clinics; elective caesarean lists; obstetric scanning; benign gynaecology clinics; 2WW integrated 1-stop clinics; outpatient hysteroscopy; colposcopy; Myosure and MVA service.

Job responsibilities

Queen Elizabeth Hospital is part of South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA), one of 21 Cancer Alliances in England. SELCA works in a collaborative model to deliver high-quality cancer services across community, primary and secondary care in south east London. In this post, the Senior Clinical Fellow will contribute to the delivery of high quality clinical care for women who present with a suspicion or confirmed diagnosis of cancer. Clinical work will include contribution to one-stop 2WW clinic providing ultrasound and hysteroscopic assessment. Attendance and contribution to weekly local and central multidisciplinary team meetings provides training in diagnostics and multiprofessional decision making. There will also be regular access to theatre lists with core members of the gynaeoncology team.

For those interested in developing managerial skills, there are on-going projects to improve clinical triage and stream line service pathways. This could be completed as a service improvement project. All senior doctors in the department contribute to regular clinical governance meeting and risk reviews.

In addition to development of a special interest in gynaecological cancers, additional ATSMs are available in: Advanced Labour Ward Practice, Labour Ward Lead, Obstetric Medicine or High Risk Pregnancy. There is also the opportunity to complete the Intermediate Obstetric Scanning Modules or Benign Abdominal and Laparoscopic; Hysteroscopy; Colposcopy; Menopause; Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Has full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills
  • MRCOG Part 2+3 (UK) or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Recent clinical experience at junior registrar level or above within Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Shows an understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and corporate risk
