Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our nursing team in the urology investigations unit.

The role will be full time over 5 days Monday-Friday 8:00-16:00, and will be across the 3 hospital sites- Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract.

The role will be to assist in multiple urological procedure, run nurse led clinics and be part of the a team looking after both cancer and benign diagnostic procedures.

Main duties of the job

Assisting with All urological procedures with in the departments including complex catheterisations, Adrenal function tests, cystoscopies, prostate biopsies, Botox and much more. Clinic preparation including notes and forms for procedures. Clinical procedures can be extended due to diagnosis, resulting in clinical over run.

Job responsibilities

Assess, plan implement and evaluate evidenced based nursing care plans.

Assist and support clinics for follow up examinations and treatment adhering to clinical policies and protocols within Urology investigations Unit.

Assist in the management and organisation of the clinical area.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with the multi-disciplinary team.

Be computer literate with the clinic system Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.

Continually monitor standards of care and contribute to improvements of care through benchmarking audit and research.

Participate in patient and public involvement activities.

Support peoples equality diversity and rights.

Comply with the data Protection act and Caldicott recommendations. Contribute to the multi-professional clinical governance/audit sessions.

Proactively support the clinical incident reporting system in order to improve practice and service delivery.

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a urology setting
  • Experience assisting with urology procedures
  • Experience with Urethral catheterisation
  • Experience with changing supra pubic catheters
  • Experience assisting with cystoscopies
  • Experience assisting with prostate biopsies

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered nurse
  • Nursing diploma Adult

Desirable

  • Nursing degree Adult or working towards.
  • Urology based course.
  • Genito-urinary course.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • IT Skills
  • Ability to plan, and assess patient care.
  • Motivation to develop relevant skills to the speciality.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written.
  • Prioritise work load.
  • Willingness to gain and develop professional knowledge.
  • Understands importance of patient confidentiality.

  • Venepuncture skills.
