Rotational Midwife
Maternity Assessment Centre
Working within Maternity Assessment Centre delivering excellent care using the BSOTS to ensure women are appropriately triaged and treated when attending with pregnancy related complications or concerns. Our Maternity Assessment Centre runs 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
High risk antenatal/intrapartum/postnatal care
Working on our consultant led labour ward or on our antenatal / postnatal ward as part of a high functioning multidisciplinary team. On our labour ward we have exceptional rates of one-to-one care in labour and this is something we are extremely proud of. Our AN/PN ward team offer an excellent service delivering the Induction of Labour pathway, Elective LSCS pathway with enhanced recovery and our Transitional Care pathway. We are proud to support our midwives in developing these services and embracing quality improvement opportunities.
Community midwifery / low risk birth
Working across our community footprint offering care to women and families close to home. This role involves on call working and supporting women who choose to birth at home or in a birth centre setting, you will need to be confident in recognising any deviations and referring to other members of the multidisciplinary team when required.
Main duties of the job
- Professional accountability for the effective planning and delivery of care for women in accordance with national and regional guidelines.
- To support and advise women regarding maternity issues, with particular emphasis on ensuring personalised care planning.
- To support, assist and advise women and their families, undertaking care and refer to other specialties as required.
- Promote the highest standards of audited research based clinical care, maintaining standards in accordance with UK law, NMC, Trust and EU guidelines.
- To be part of a continuity of carer model providing expert midwifery care during the pre-conceptual, ante, intrapartum and postnatal period.
- To work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-agency team

Job responsibilities
Provide safe, high quality evidence based care throughout the maternitypathway. Ensure information is communicated in a clear and unbiased way to facilitate informed decision making. In partnership with the woman, assesses needs, planning, implementing and evaluating care on an individual basis, promoting equality and considering diversity and rights Maintain contemporaneous documentation in accordance with NMC Code. Liaise and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and otheragencies, when complex needs are identified. Continuously assess risks and deviations from normal and ensure timelyreferral, intervention and escalation. Consider the diverse needs of women and their families and ensure thedelivery of individualised plans of care. Participates in provision of public health information Provide health/parent education either individually or in groups to maximise the benefit to families. Facilitate womens involvement in the decision making process regarding all aspects of their pregnancy birth and postnatal care. Participates in departmental team meetings and other committees whennecessary. Work flexibly across different wards/departments as indicated by serviceneeds. QUALIFICATIONS / TRANING
Essential
- Registered Midwife
- Mentorship/ Preceptorship Qualification
- BSc midwifery studies or equivalent
- Evidence of recent continuous professional development
- Baby friendly infant feeding training of equivalent
- Evidence of 'Active Birth' training or experience
- Evidence of domestic abuse awareness and safeguarding children training
Desirable
- Introduction to Management
- Leading an Empowerment Organisation training
- ALSO training
- NALS training
- Willing to undertake the Examination of the Newborn course
- Willing to undertake Newborn life support training
- Motivational interviewing training
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
Essential
- Competent in all aspects of midwifery practice including intrapartum care and perineal suturing
- Demonstrable and recent relevant experience of working in hospital, birth centre or community setting
- Evidence of a desire to work as an integrated midwife
- Working knowledge / experience of multi- disciplinary agency working
- Knowledge of the Antenatal and new born screening programmes
- Knowledge of public health midwifery issues
- Knowledge of clinical governance
- Knowledge and understanding of professional midwifery advocate
- Proficient in neonatal resuscitation
- Working knowledge and experience of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
