North West London Pathology (NWLP) is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust. The partnership represents a model for delivering pathology testing in a modern, efficient operation that manages 25 million tests per year. Our services are delivered at seven hospital sites across North West London.

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic band 6 Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Haematology and Blood Transfusion team, within Blood Sciences, at St Mary's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant is required to have relevant, specialist-level, discipline-specific knowledge and experience, and will participate in the laboratory rotation through the core sections of Automated Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion, and will receive additional training in specialist areas. Our busy department is fully computerised (Sunquest and Telepath). The Pathology department utilises the Q-Pulse Quality Management System.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Education

Essential

  • 2nd class honours degree or equivalent in a biological science which is acceptable by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)/ Health Professions Council (HPC) for Registration
  • HCPC Registration
  • Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent in relevant discipline
  • or 24 months proven experience post Registration in the relevant discipline

Experience

  • Previous experience in a large busy laboratory

  • Practical analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work.
  • Timely accurate working. Methodical
