Job summary

Our breast screening programme is one of the largest in the East Midlands and one of the largest in England. Our Breast Screening population is 160,000. In addition to the screening activity our symptomatic and surveillance demand is approximately 17,000 per year. We are a centre that is actively involved in clinical trials and have successfully secured Tomosynthesis along with Contrast Enhanced Digital Mammography.

The successful applicant will need to have a passion for working to the highest standard to join our dedicated and highly trained team.

You will need to be motivated, passionate, and able to work as part of a team with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will need to demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and concentrate on tasks in a busy environment.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality mammographic service, including screening and the symptomatic breast clinics, to the women of Leicestershire and Rutland adhering to the NHSBSP guidelines including monitoring of the equipment and quality standards.

Job responsibilities

To prepare all mammographic equipment prior to using to ensure that equipment is working correctly and safely following agreed protocolsEnsure that women attending for Breast Imaging are interviewed in the appropriate manner displaying an encouraging attitude to breast imaging and that women are supported and guided through the mammographic process.Manage the mammographic workflowAssist in the development of systems of work including operational policies and proceduresTo initiate and make recommendations towards changes in clinical practice for new ways of working.To adhere to the NHSBSP Quality Assurance Guidelines for Radiographers and maintain high standards of clinical expertise in all aspects of Breast Imaging.To keep abreast of modern imaging techniques by further appropriate training and to be responsible for their Continuous Professional DevelopmentTo adhere to all Local Rules, Ionising Radiation Regulations and Health and Safety at Work Procedures, including prompt reporting of accidents, equipment faults and untoward incidents and any other new policies and procedures.

To act as a supervisor / mentor to students and junior members of staff as required.Any other duties as required following discussion with departmental manager

Person Specification

Training and qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers/BSc in Radiography or equivalent

Desirable

  • Certificate of Competence/ post graduate award in Mammography

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current mammography equipment and techniques
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and control

Desirable

  • Experience o NHS breast screening programme

Communication

Essential

  • Ability to work as a team
  • Ability to communicate easily and effectively with staff and clients, in particular empathise with distressed women recalled to assessment
  • Be able to speak, receive and issue instructions in English concerning patients without risk of misunderstanding
