Job summary

The Department of Immunology at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge seek an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. This permanent, full time post is in our busy and progressive UKAS 15189 accredited Immunology laboratory and is also suitable for those nearing completion of their registration portfolio.

We provide an extensive specialist repertoire alongside a routine autoimmune serology, allergy and myeloma service to local, regional and international centres.Working as part of our experienced scientific team in analysis of patient samples, you will be expected to take part in the shift system covering Monday - Saturday 08:00 - 18:00 after appropriate training.

You will be a state registered Biomedical Scientist with experience in an NHS diagnostic laboratory. Whilst practical experience in an Immunology laboratory is desirable, training will be given.

Consideration may be given to applications from candidates nearing completion of their Registration Portfolio or placement students who need to graduate to complete their registration. Evidence required at interview.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake testing and processing of biological specimens, analysis and entering of results onto LIMS
  • To work flexibly in reflection of service needs. This will include an extended working day and participation in delivery of a 6 days per week service
  • Supervise and/or train less experienced staff in own area of work and competency
  • The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, urine, CSF and respiratory secretions
  • Maintain and promote professional image of the CUH Trust.

Essential

  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • IBMS Accredited Biomedical science honours degree

Desirable

  • Evidence of progress in completing HCPC registration portfolio
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development

Experience

Essential

  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of Biomedical procedures gained through BSc or equivalent
  • Previous practical experience of working in an NHS Diagnostic laboratory
  • Practical experience of working in an Immunology laboratory

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Pathology IT systems
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge/performance of Risk Assessments
