Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychologist to work in the Integrated Looked after Children's Team. As a specialist children's service, NHFT's Integrated Looked-after Children (LAC) Health Service works throughout Northamptonshire to support the emotional and physical wellbeing of children in care also known as looked after children. The Mental Health Team accept referrals from partnership agencies (including social care, education, and other health services) for children in the care of Northamptonshire's Children Trust (NCT), as well as other local authorities. Our population of looked-after children residing within Northamptonshire is approximately 1200 children.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working in an integrated skill mix team that can include Specialist Mental Health Practitioners, Social Workers, and Clinical Psychologists and Specialist Looked after Children Nurses.

The post holder will provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the Integrated LAC service through the provision of specialist psychological assessment and therapy. The post holder will offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to a range of stakeholders including non-psychologist colleagues (such as Social Workers, residential workers, education providers etc) and to other, non-professional carers (i.e. Foster Carers). The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams' policies and procedures, and where appropriate utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development within the area served by the team/service.

As a senior clinician within the Mental Health Team, the post holder will be expected to display clinical leadership, inform the development of evidence-based practice to deliver high quality care and optimise service delivery, and offer advice and support to the wider team where required and indicated.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Doctoral Level training in Clinical Psychology. Eligibility for registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Evidence of conducting specialist psychological assessments using various sources, including neuro-developmental assessment observations, and interviews with clients and their support network.
  • Evidence of experience of Implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, following NICE guidelines for looked-after children,

Desirable

  • 2 years experience of working with looked after children or children with complex presentations
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of offering supervision to trainee and/or assistant psychologists and non psychology colleagues. Experience and ability to teach and train others.

Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Experience of offering advice, consultation, and training to adults working with the client group across various agencies and settings.
  • Evidence of experience of oUndertaking risk assessment and management for clients and advise other professionals on psychological aspects of risk.
  • oExperience of contributing to service development

Desirable

  • Experience as a care coordinator, managing the planning and review of care plans under CPA, involving clients, carers, and other care network members.
