Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Cancer Wellbeing Link Worker for ESNEFT, based at Ipswich Hospital. This post is part time 18.75 hours per week and you will be working as part of a job share.The Cancer Wellbeing & Information Centre is currently a Monday - Friday service, 8am - 4pm, there is an expectation that you will need to be available during these times. The current working pattern for this part of the job share will be Wednesday 12.15pm - 4pm, Thursday and Friday 8am - 4pm.

We are looking for someone who enjoys helping others, has good listening skills, great organisation ability and experience of supporting people facing challenging situations.

Ideally, you will have experience of working within the NHS, and supporting patients both emotionally and practically, ensuring they receive local information and access to personalised care and wellbeing support.

You will also be a real team player who enjoys creating effective working relationships, through liaising regularly with the wider oncology teams within the hospital and services in the community.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a point of contact for patients, carers and professionals visiting or calling the centre, to help them identify their wellbeing, information and support needs and work collaboratively as part of the team to meet their needs.
  • To coordinate the programme of wellbeing support offered by the centre's charitable fund, ensuring that patients and carers have accurate and relevant information to help them access the cancer wellbeing support that's right for them
  • To ensure a high standard of supportive service is equitably and consistently delivered on a daily basis daily through undertaking / delegating all required and activities required within the daily service response
  • To support the development and integration of volunteers and students working within the cancer wellbeing centre team
  • To deputise in the absence of the Deputy Centre Manager
  • To assist with activity and patient experience data collation and evaluation of wellbeing offers

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Proven team / service coordinator experience
  • Proven experience of working in a non-clinical support role within the NHS
  • Proven experience of working with people in highly challenging and emotional situations
  • Proven experience of identifying, supporting and meeting service user's needs
  • Use of Microsoft applications including office and excel
  • Front-line contact with members of the public

Desirable

  • Experience of working within NHS cancer services
  • NHS patient records experience

Qualifications

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs, grade C or above, including English & Maths

Desirable

  • Cancer awareness training
