Job summary

Parkfield Medical Centre is looking to recruit a nursing associate, to support a specific stream of work at the practice. This role is offered on a full-time basis, although part time hours will be considered. This role will involve working as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team providing planned care and delivering the highest standards of patient care. The role is exciting and challenging, where compassion, teamwork, excellent communication skills, emotional resilience and initiative are paramount.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake clinical tasks including venepuncture and ECGs.
  • Support individuals and their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses.
  • Perform and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations, and pulse.
  • Discuss and share information with registered nurses on a patients condition, behaviour, activity, and responses.
  • Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is always maintained.
  • Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
  • Recognise and report any situations, behaviours or errors that could result in poor care.
  • Conduct safe administration of injections using subcutaneous and intramuscular routes.
  • Smear tests
  • Diabetes care
  • Chronic disease management
  • End of life/ palliative care support
  • Undertake clinical medication reviews to proactively manage people with complex polypharmacy especially for the elderly, people in care homes and those with multiple comorbidities.
  • Support the practice in the delivery of full Spirometry services.
  • Attendance at practice meeting where necessary

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
  • Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
  • A willingness to learn new skills and attend training.
  • Ability to organize and prioritise own delegated workload.
  • Ability to undertake the clinical skills outlined in the Job description.
  • Ability to deal with non- routine and unpredictable nature of workload and individual patient contact.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/ relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop effective and appropriate relationships with people their families, carers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to support, supervise, assess, and act as a role model to trainee nursing associates, nursing assistants as required within the clinical setting.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register.
  • Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
  • GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
  • At least 2 years post graduate training
