As part of a successful establishment review, exciting opportunities have arisen as Ellesmere Port Hospital for permanent band 5 registered nurses, based on Stroke Rehabilitation Ward.

Stroke Rehabilitation Ward at Ellesmere Port Hospital is a 17 bedded neurological rehabilitation Ward, we are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic Registered Nurses, to join our joint nursing and therapy team.

The successful candidate will continue to develop skills of clinical reasoning, and supervisionin a supportive, caring, and friendly environment, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care is maintained, you will enjoy the excellent ethos of multidisciplinary working to ensure effective and efficient patient flow between the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Ellesmere Port Hospital has 59 beds across three rehabilitation units. It is our aim to deliver person centred care, in the right place, at the right time.

We would welcome applications from both newly qualified nurses and those with experience with an interest in care of older people. We are seeking Individuals who are comfortable to challenge change and are committed to improving patient experience.

The Intermediate Care Units have a different focus on care and provide a person centred approach with the aim of optimising physical health and wellbeing over a 24 hour period. Our units provide short term general and stroke rehabilitation for patients who are medically optimised but not at a suitable level for discharge home. Patients will transfer from emergency medicine, current inpatient beds, repatriation for a period of rehabilitation as well as step up from the community.

The nursing role will be to support patients to manage their long term conditions and act as an autonomous practitioner. This role would develop your autonomy, discharge planning skills and relationships with community and 3rd sector services alongside being in a proactive and supportive team.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Registration - NMC
  • Mentorship & Assessing qualification (or acquired following Preceptorship & after 12 months in post)

Desirable

  • Post-registration qualification or evidence of further study
  • Relevant speciality qualification (may be required for certain practice areas e.g. Critical Care)

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Basic financial awareness
  • Basic IT skills in word processing/Hospital systems
  • Understanding of quality change in a clinical setting
  • Basic knowledge of professional & NHS issues

Desirable

  • Post-registration experience in a clinical setting (May be required & will be discussed at interview)
