We are seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated Band 5 Radiographers to join our exceptional department team at University Hospital Lewisham.

All qualified applicants must be registered with the HCPC and hold a DCR or BSc in Radiography. Students awaiting HCPC registration are welcome to apply.

The successful candidates will be required to participate in the departmental shift patterns which cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; you will need to be able to display a flexible approach to these working patterns. Cross site working will be required as necessary giving you the opportunity to work and experience a range of different equipment and examinations.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

  1. Accountable to Radiology Service Manager.
  2. To provide radiographic imaging to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines.
  3. The post holder will be required to carry out radiographic duties in all areas including theatres, A&E both adults and paediatrics, on wards especially those with high dependency patients and the critically ill.
  4. To carry out all responsibilities with regard to Trust Policies including Data Protection and Equal Opportunities.

Key Result Areas:

  • To independently undertake diagnostic radiology procedures maintaining high professional standards of technical competence and ensuring standards of essence of care at all times.
  • To assess and adapt techniques and protocols following assessment for each procedure.
  • To take responsibility for the care of the patient whilst undertaking the procedure. This includes manual handling.
  • To ensure the protection and safety of all patients and staff against the dangers of radiation.
  • To monitor and evaluate Ionising Radiation Regulations 99 and IR(ME)R 2000 and ensure patients procedures are performed with due consideration of these regulations.
  • To comply with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • To ensure patient confidentiality is observed at all times and observe the requirements of the data protection act and freedom of information act.
  • To participate in the departments out of hours on-call rota.
  • To observe all local rules and the Trusts employment policies and procedures.
  • To undertake regular QA tests to identify and report equipment faults or inaccuracies
  • Ensure the safe use of specialist radiology equipment. To report equipment failures immediately.

  • To participate in the induction and training of student radiographers.
  • To attend compulsory staff training courses
  • To provide assistance and be involved in departmental projects
  • To be participate in departmental quality groups.
  • To take every opportunity for self-development.

Work force

  • To ensure accurate recording on the Radiology Information System patient information and examination details including confirmation of examination and consumables used and dose received by patient.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to processes in development and planning of radiology services.
  • To attend any meetings as required by the Head of Imaging or Service Manager for Radiology.

Partnerships

  • To promote good relations with other directorates and hospitals
  • To offer advice and guidance to patients and carers on radiology procedures and radiation issues taking due consideration of patients conditions.
  • To obtain informed consent from patients prior to undertaking procedures as appropriate to individual circumstances

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • DCR, BSc in Radiography or equivalent State Registered

Desirable

  • IV cannulation certificate

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrate high standards of technical skills
  • Able to demonstrate a responsible attitude to teamwork.
  • Demonstrate a high level of patient care, able to cope with the diversity of patients needs
  • IT skills
  • Competent in the use and care of a range of x-ray equipment.

Desirable

  • Enthusiasm for training students.
  • Progressive attitude to CPD
  • Out of hours work

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Good communications skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Confident to act on own initiative.
