This post is to recruit to a Trust Registrar in Paediatrics Medicine (ST1 or higher), Nottingham Children's Hospital. (3 x posts).

Main duties of the job

Nottingham Children's Hospital are looking to recruit a paediatric trust registrar to an exciting role encompassing urgent and emergency care alongside a unique career development opportunity. The doctor will be part of the experienced general paediatric team and work alongside current paediatric specialty trainees in the department. This post provides an exciting opportunity to increase paediatric urgent and emergency care skills whilst developing an interest in a sub-specialty area of paediatrics or medical education or undertaking a quality improvement project or research

About us

Hospital services for children in Nottingham merged onto a single site at Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham Children's Hospital was created within it.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist services for children in Nottingham, together with tertiary paediatric and neonatal services to the adjacent areas of Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire (Trent SHA catchment area), surgical services for Stoke on Trent in the Midlands and neurosurgical services for Leicestershire.

Job responsibilities

We also provide supra-regional services for paediatric spinal surgery, rheumatology, nephro-urologyand cystic fibrosis. Paediatric cardiac surgery and hepato-biliary surgery are not resourcedlocally.

The Childrens Hospital is situated in East Block on D and E floors, with out-patient departments on B floor and within the community setting and comprises:

Eight wards - 121 Beds, including critical care

Critical care unit 14 beds from Jan 2015

An Oncology Day Case Unit with anaesthetic facilities,

A Short Stay unit for observation of the acutely ill child

A large Hospital school.

The Academic Division of Child Health (University of Nottingham School of Human

Development).

A 22-bedded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (situated on B floor adjacent to thedelivery suite)

2 outpatient areas on B Floor, South and East

Community Paediatric outpatient and administrative bases at 14 locality based health centres

Outpatient and administrative bases at the Child Development Centre, NottinghamCity Hospital Campus.

The East Midlands Children and Young Peoples Sexual Assault Service is situated inSouth Block, A Floor.

Professional registration

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registration

Professional qualifications

Essential

  • MRCPCH Foundation of Practice and Theory and Science exams
  • PLS

Desirable

  • MRCPCH Applied Knowledge in Practice and Clinical Exams

Clinical skills / experience

Essential

  • Minimum two years experience in paediatrics including general paediatrics

Desirable

  • Experience in paediatric emergency medicine

Audit and reseach

Essential

  • Experience of audit or research
