Job summary

Applications are invited for appointment to this Subspecialty Training Placement in Paediatric Otolaryngology Program at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Three positions are available, each for 12 months. One post will commence on the 1st April 2025 one post will start on 1st October 2025.

The aim of this Fellowship Program is to provide sub-specialist training in Paediatric Otolaryngology at tertiary level following completion of higher surgical training.

Applicants would usually be expected to have completed their otolaryngology training program and to be post CCT at the time of taking up the post. Candidates are expected to have experience of specialist paediatric otolaryngology.

Main duties of the job

This post is to combine a service commitment to the trust together with an opportunity to experience subspecialty paediatric ENT surgery in a diverse patient group.

The aim of this Fellowship post is to provide sub-specialist training in Paediatric Otolaryngology at tertiary level following completion of higher surgical training for those who are committed to a career in paediatric ENT.

The 2 fellows are responsible for the smooth day to day running of the department under the close guidance of the consultants. They need to develop good working relationships with other key departments such as ITU, Respiratory and anaesthesia. They will help to train the Specialist registrars and SHO's. The on call rota is 1 in 7

Person Specification

Education, training and qualifAcademic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential

  • Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice by designated start date
  • FRCS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher Degree MSc Mphil in related discipline MRCS Prizes and Scolarships BSc/BmedSci

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • At least 4 years higher surgical training in Otolaryngology
  • Understanding of principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
  • Appropriate level of ENT clinical knowledge
  • Awareness of own limitations, consulting senior colleagues appropriately
  • Understanding of general paediatrics- knowledge of basic texts/conditions

Desirable

  • Clinical experience in other related specialties eg Paediatrics / Neonatology / Neurosurgery / Plastic Surgery / Paediatric Surgery / Audiology
  • Published research in ENT
  • Understanding of Paediatric Audiology
  • Understanding of principles of Clinical Governance
  • Understanding of principles of research
  • Understanding of principles of audit
