Job summary

HIV and Integrated sexual health services Senior Clinical Fellows in HIV and Sexual Health Available from August 2024 for 6 months possibly extendable

The Sexual Health Services at Central and North West London NHS FT are looking for doctors interested in GUM/HIV/ID.

Based at Mortimer Market Centre (MMC) in Central London, which is one of the largest cohorts of HIV patients in the UK.

Previous experience in HIV/ID medicine and/or Sexual Health medicine would be an advantage but not essential.

The successful post holder will have the opportunity to join the weekly training and education meetings with protected study time.

The service at the Mortimer Market Centre provides integrated sexual health care as well as HIV and has an active quality improvement and research programme bridging epidemiology and clinical management.

Main duties of the job

To provide patient-centred, high quality STI and contraceptive care ensuring that patients are well informed and able to participate in their care

To provide HIV +/- hepatitis outpatient services at the Bloomsbury Clinic

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver Integrated sexual health care and HIV and hepatitis treatment in accordance with the values and standards of CNWL and the GMC

To take part in research, audit, quality improvement and training as defined in job plan.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To undertake the clinical and administrative duties outlined in the job plan - to be agreed on appointment and reviewed regularly.

To provide patient-centred, high quality care ensuring that patients are well informed and able to participate in their care.

To be responsible for maintaining satisfactory patient records. This will include entering of relevant data into electronic patient records.

To provide regular updates to relevant health care professionals.

Provide relevant sexual health, general health and adherence promotion.

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) including engagement in the weekly MDT meeting to review antiretrovirals & complex clinical or psychosocial questions.

To support the HIV/hepatitis team in terms of emergency clinic cover, emergency prescriptions and other clinical activities as required.

To refer patients where appropriate this includes specialty to specialty referrals within UCLH when indicated.

To treat all patients in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner.

To maintain confidentiality in accordance with national and local policies.

To be available for advice as agreed in the job plan and to give medical advice to junior medical staff, nursing colleagues, local pharmacy and general practice teams.

To take responsibility for designated management tasks as agreed with the local management team.

Participate in the induction of new members of staff when required.

Fulfil the requirements for appraisal and revalidation as set out by the General Medical Council.

Person Specification

Research and Audit

Essential

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Evidence Based Medicine

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • Basic medical qualifications
  • MRCP or equivalent (MRCP parts 1 and 2 as minimum)

Desirable

  • Dip GUM and/or DIP HIV

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in NHS
  • Experience in GIM
  • Evidence of publications (papers /posters/case reports)

Desirable

  • Experience in HIV and/or GUM
  • Experience in providing sexual & reproductive healthcare
  • Clinical teaching / lecturing experience
