Job summary

The Homerton Healthcare Emergency Department are looking to appoint two Locum Consultants in Emergency Medicine for a 12-month period.

Post 1: Locum Consultant, full time: 10 PAs

Post 2: Locum Consultant, part time: 7 PAs

The postholders will be expected to provide support in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and/or Same Day Emergency Care, but the team are happy to consider other additional interests.

The post will join the current 13 consultant body which consists of Adult Emergency Medicine Consultants, 2 Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants and a Consultant Paediatrician with subspecialty training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. The Trust has a track record of tailor-making job plans to optimise individuals' professional development.

Both posts are based at Homerton Healthcare, in Hackney, East London, an exciting and challenging place with a diverse and richly multicultural population. We were rated as the first 'Outstanding' Emergency Department following CQC inspection, a rating that was repeated upon second inspection.

The posts offer ample opportunities for the individuals to contribute to their specific area of interest, which may include teaching, training and exam preparation, digital solutions, Sports and Exercise medicine, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Simulation, Critical Care, Ultrasound, Safety and Governance including Quality Improvement, Trauma, Care of the Elderly Medicine, Observational medicine, and Same Day Emergency Care.

About us

Homerton Healthcare is a Foundation Trust and teaching hospital in East London. We are in the middle of Hackney - a diverse and interesting inner-city area. The department has Trauma Unit status and sits within the North East London and Essex Trauma Network and was the designated hospital for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The Emergency Department has trainees (Senior and Core level) and non-training posts in Emergency Medicine as well as a Physician Associate, advanced care practitioners, GP and sports and exercise medicine trainees, and an array of boutique clinical fellows with varied interests in ultrasound, simulation, and medical education. We have an excellent record of supporting and developing those in and out of training programmes, all the way to becoming Consultants or through CESR entry to the specialist register.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCEM, FFAEM or equivalent

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Broad Emergency Medicine experience
  • Advanced trauma management skills
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching ability
  • Evidence of leadership ability
  • ALS, APLS provider
  • Demonstrated interest and experience with ultrasound

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Paediatric Emergency work
  • Familiarity with Acute Medicine
  • Advanced life support course instructor (ALS/ATLS/APLS)
  • Level 1 Ultrasound Accreditation
  • Training in role of Educational Supervisor as laid down by PMETB
  • Level 3 Child Protection Training

Certificate of Completion

Essential

  • Presence on the Specialist Register for Emergency
  • Medicine or within 6 months of achieving this

Management

  • Familiarity with management processes and evidence of involvement in management at specialty training level
