Job summary

We have state of the art hospitals at Pontefract and Wakefield and are upgrading the existing Dewsbury Hospital to the same standard. Maternity services are delivered at all three Trust sites. We have antenatal clinics and Midwife Led Birth centres on all three sites and a dedicated Consultant led labour ward at Pinderfields providing 98 hour resident cover per week. Our labour ward is directly linked to our neonatal unit where we have an excellent working relationship with our neonatal team. Within Gynaecology services we have a dedicated Gynaecology assessment unit on the Pinderfields site and offer a wide range of comprehensive services to our patients including:

Being a well-respected Endometriosis Centre.

A dedicated Gynaecology Acute Assessment Unit at Pinderfields to help improve our patients experience.

Outpatient clinics for colposcopy, hysteroscopy including see and treat, minor procedures, PMB clinics, Uro-gynaecology

Gynaecology oncology unit which works via efficient MDT with Leeds as the hub and a visiting gynaecology oncology consultant from Leeds.

Elective surgery and clinics on all sites so patients receive care closer to home.

Elective obstetric suite at Pinderfields.

A bereavement suite for mothers who have suffered a still birth or late miscarriage.

Gynaecology day care and inpatient operating lists

Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space and secretarial support is provided at Dewsbury Hospital

Hot Week cover for Obstetrics and Gynaecology consultant 1.5 PAs

Monday to Friday 08:00 18:00 hrs (relieved of all other activities during this period). The hot week consultant will undertake ALL ward rounds.

On-call duties for Obstetrics and Gynaecology only shared with 13 colleagues on an approximately 1:10 basis and currently assessed as 2.5 PAs (resident from 17:30 hours until 23:00 hours during weekdays Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 19.30 hours during weekends Saturday and Sunday, outside these hours the on call will be non-resident)

-typically non-patient-facing duties on a post-on call day.

Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. 1.0 SPA Wednesday PM and 0.5 flexible throughout the week. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service.

This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered.

Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our three sites. Office and secretarial support will be provided at the Dewsbury site.

MYTT has a well established service for management of complex gynaecological surgery. We are the biggest BSGE regional centre for endometriosis in Yorkshire. We offer tertiary level sub-spec urogynaecolgy surgery service. We work in collaboration with Leeds Teaching Hospitals for gynaecology cancer cases. We are supported by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, urologists and radiologists.

Experience

Essential

  • ATSM Advanced Labour Ward practice
  • ATSM in any Gynaecological discipline to complement the department will be considered.
  • Fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative.
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service
  • Appropriate experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day to day management of the Service.
  • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

Desirable

  • ATSM To complement our existing Obstetric and Gynaecology service

GMC Registration
