Main duties of the job

B5 Anaesthetic Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners- Cardiac and Neuro Theatres

  • We have Band 5 post vacancies in Cardiac and Neuro Theatres for qualified RN anaesthetic trained nurses & Operating Department Practitioners.
  • We are offering exciting opportunities to work within our innovative and dynamic theatre departments within London's largest hospital.
  • The Trust runs 33 operating theatres across 2 sites, of which 29 theatres are located at St. George's Hospital, one of London's major trauma centres.
  • Our friendly team works alongside world renowned surgeons and anaesthetists and are committed to delivering excellent care to our patients.
  • Some of the broad range of specialities, aside from cardiothoracic and neuro we provide in our theatre department include: general surgery, bariatrics, gynaecology, urology, renal, robotic surgery as well as renal transplant , vascular, ENT, maxillofacial, trauma, CEPOD 24/7 non-elective surgery, obstetric, paediatrics and neonatal surgery in other theatre suits.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (general) or Operating Department Practitioner

Desirable

  • A minimum of 12 months post registration experience.

Organisational Management

Essential

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise workload and patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clinical risk

Desirable

  • Computer literate
  • Ability to take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager on a regular basis.

Education & Research

Essential

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
  • Able to explain the principles of mentoring and assessing junior staff
  • Understands the importance of developing self and others

Desirable

  • Demonstrates an understanding of audit
  • Ability to take on small research or audit project.
