the value of Childrens Physiotherapy and we have new investment into our team
to improve the outcomes of babies, children and young people. We have an
exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Physiotherapist in our
Childrens Physiotherapy Team and with the right skills. You will join our well-established Childrens Physiotherapy service
which supports children aged 0-19 years and will work in providing support to
the Neonatal Unit and all community settings across Sunderland and South
Tyneside. You will be a key part of our childrens physiotherapy service and
will have opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills. You will
be predominantly based in our Sunderland site providing care across both
Sunderland and South Tyneside areas. As a team we work together to provide the
best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are our key asset to
improve patient outcomes. You will have excellent support and be part of a
wider AHP neonatal team and the Childrens Integrated Therapy Service team too.
You will be keen to drive services forward as we change and develop. You will
align to our vision and values to improve patient outcomes and develop our
workforce.

Main duties of the job
You will be based in
Sunderland as part of our Childrens Physiotherapy team that covers South
Tyneside and Sunderland. You will be integral in developing the service to and
providing support into the Neonatal Unit at SRH, continuing care within the
Physiotherapy department and all community settings. You will be responsible
for a wide and varied caseload. You will have a comprehensive knowledge and
experience within paediatrics including pre-term babies and children with
complex presentations. You will have experience of Paediatric assessment tools
relating to pre-term infants and a good working knowledge of the Bobath
approach. You will have experience of the Education Health and Care Plans
(Children and Families Act 2014), report writing and participation in
associated meetings. You will have experience and a working knowledge of
safeguarding. You will have knowledge and experience of CPIPs and have the ability
to work both within a Physiotherapy team, MDT and the wider team. This is an
excellent opportunity to work in a large team across our patch with other
specialist clinicians. You will participate in and be integral to the clinical
supervision, training and education of all staff, including students. You will
be required to meet the travel requirements of this post.

Job responsibilities
The post
holder will work within the multidisciplinary team on the neonatal unit at
Sunderland Royal Hospital including Nursing staff, Medical team, other Allied
Health Professionals and support staff. This may also include any teams
involved in care of babies who have received neonatal care who require further
in-patient care in SRH.
To
contribute to the delivery of Family Integrated Care (FiCare). To support
parents to be confident in in caring for their baby whilst on the neonatal unit
and in preparation for discharge home.
To take a
lead role, in the advanced assessment and treatment of neonatal patients with
neuro-developmental problems who may have complex multi-pathology / chronic
presentation.
To play a
key role in the development, implementation and evaluation of specialist
physiotherapy programmes and packages of care.
To
contribute specialist assessment and intervention in neonatal follow-up clinic service
provision.
To offer a
pathway for the speciality management of paediatric complex cases by
facilitating timely and appropriate intervention within community settings
To use
highly developed analytical and judgment skills to be directly involved in the
clinical decision making process as part of the multidisciplinary team, using
and interpreting the results of diagnostic tests to progress the management of
the childs condition in relation to developmental/ Neurological/
musculoskeletal and respiratory status.
To work as
part of the neonatal multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with
colleagues
To deliver
co-ordinated care, and to lead on neurodevelopmental teaching to MDT staff
To empower
families and clinical staff to provide neuroprotective developmental care and
advocate neuro-developmental care
To
undertake evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in
practice and to participate in departmental research and audit

Qualifications
Essential
- Evidence of extensive CPD and up to date knowledge within Paediatrics achieved through:

- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists
- Highly specialist knowledge of specialist assessment tools relevant to Paediatric Physiotherapy

- An ability to critically appraise new ideas / approaches to therapy.
