Job summary

This is a rotational post in a busy purpose-built Deanesly Cancer Centre Wolverhampton, covering all aspects of radiotherapy physics specialty and further training will be provided in external beam treatment planning, brachytherapy, dosimetry, and machine QA.

Applicants should be HCPC Registered Clinical Scientists or expected to complete their National School of Healthcare Science -Training (NSHCS STP) shortly.

Applicants looking for 'route 2' to further their career as a clinical scientist will also be considered at a lower band.

This is an outstanding opportunity to be involved with several new developments including SABR and brachytherapy to further your career in these exciting times.

We are a dedicated and experienced, diverse team, working together to provide the highest standard of radiotherapy physics support. We have an excellent working relationship with the wider MDT locally as well as close collaboration amongst the radiotherapy centres within the region, headed by the West Midlands Cancer Alliance.

The department equipment includes 4 Elekta Versa HD linear accelerators with IGRT, VMAT, FFF and EPID dosimetry capability. There are two wide bore 4D CT scanners, Xstrahl orthovoltage and Flexitron HDR.

Supporting software currently includes Pinnacle TPS, Mosaiq Record and Verify system, Prosoma Virtual Simulator, Oncentra Masterplan Brachytherapy TPS, IMSure QA Software and Sun Nuclear ArcCHECK verification system. ProsomaCore secondary MU check software.

Main duties of the job

To provide support to all aspects of work in the Radiotherapy Physics Group covering radiotherapy treatment planning and checking, treatment machine calibrations, quality assurance procedures and carrying out dosimetry inter-comparisons to the relevant standard. Be familiar with radiotherapy imaging, specialised software packages and their uses. Assist with the commissioning of new radiotherapy equipment and the development of new techniques. Job holder is expected to rotate between treatment planning, dosimetry and Machine QA. At all times maintain high standards and safe practices as applicable to radiotherapy and participate in research and development.
