An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Respiratory Physiology team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Respiratory Physiology service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust provides comprehensive diagnostic testing for a range of respiratory and sleep disorders as well as the provision of CPAP physiologist led clinics.
As a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner in Respiratory Physiology you will enroll on the Healthcare Science Level 6 Apprenticeship along with working as part of a team supporting the respiratory physiologists to provide a high quality clinical service. You will assist in promoting a welcoming and caring environment for patients, visitors, colleagues and other staff members attending the department, and well as develop and maintain accurate competency records to appropriate academic standards.
As an entry-level role, you are not expected to have direct experience in physiological measurement but a general aptitude for handling equipment, ability in data interpretation and excellent communication skills are all key components to success in this role. You will be provided with full training to enable you to carry out routine diagnostic lung function tests and sleep studies. With further training, you will develop skills in basic interpretation of sleep studies and learn how to support patients to get the most from their treatments.
The role will be primarily based at the Sleep Centre in Charing Cross Hospital, with cross-site rotations across the Lung Function departments within the trust (HH, CXH, SMH, WCDC).
Main duties of the job
Respiratory Physiology encompasses lung function testing in dedicated facilities on all three sites, a purpose-built sleep centre equipped to diagnose and treat a range of respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders and a cardiopulmonary exercise testing lab. The service is staffed by a large team of Clinical Scientists and Clinical Physiologists who work closely with medical and nursing colleagues to deliver high quality diagnostics in respiratory medicine.

EDUCATION
Essential
- GCSE in English and maths (grade C or 4 or above) and at least one science subject.
- Certificates showing completion of external short clinical-technical courses relevant to the role.
Desirable
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Essential
- Proven sufficient Scientific skills and experience to assimilate and interpret complex data
- Proven administrative skills and computer literacy as required for routine use of clinical and patient database systems
- Excellent communication skills
