An exciting opportunity has arisen in OMFS for a specialty doctor experienced in Oral surgery/OMFS

This post offer a good scope for obtaining surgical experience and further training within a supportive environment. There will be sessions at spoke units in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and/ or Airedale General Hospital. There is a 1 in 6 second on call commitment to cover the acute Oral & Maxillofacial intake and management of ward patients with rota enhancements for this included.

There is a strong team of consultants who provide the full breadth of OMF surgery and this is complemented by a Consultant in Restorative dentistry providing rehabilitation and advanced restorative management of the surgical patients. There is also an active cohort of Consultant Orthodontists and there is collaborative multidisciplinary working across all the specialties. The post holder will be an integral part of this team and be able to gain experience within the full scope of departmental work. Additionally, the department has an active research profile & the successful applicants will be encouraged to partake in research, audit and teaching.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in the provision of the acute trauma service on the second tier on call for the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTH). They will undertake the management of patients requiring Oral & Maxillofacial services in both outpatient & inpatient settings. This will include, but is not limited, to oncology, Orthognathic surgery, dento-alveolar surgery, facial trauma, diagnostic and treatment clinics, local and general anaesthetic theatre sessions, provision of emergency on-call at second tier level. The post holder will take a significant part in providing training for the junior doctors & dentists in the department. They will be expected to provide clinical supervision for these post graduate trainees. The post holder will be expected to undertake personal audit and engage with clinical governance activities within the department.

Essential

  • Previous experience relevant to the specialty
  • Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practise safely Commitment for managing professional development

  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
  • Out of hours experience relevant to job.

Desirable

  • Experience in the specialty beyond ST3 or equivalent

Qualifications

Essential

  • BDS or equivalent dental qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GDC at time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
  • Evidence of achievement of DCT2 / DCT3 competencies in the specialty at time of application.
  • Specialty specific requirements eg MFDS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Evidence of staff grade/middle tier jobs
