Harefield Hospital

This is a registrar-level post in transplant medicine for a respiratory physician; the successful applicants will join a dynamic team with an international reputation. The Harefield hospital is a specialist cardiothoracic Centre that with services including interventional cardiology, thoracic and cardiac surgery.

The post holders will undertake an active role in inpatient care and participate in outpatient clinics as well as the EWTD-compliant on-call rota. They will gain experience in assessment and management of end-stage lung disease, intensive care, post-operative rehabilitation, immunosuppression, assessment and management of opportunistic infections, interventional bronchoscopy as well as team training using the simulation training facility in the StaR post-graduate centre at Harefield

Main duties of the job

The Middle Grade doctors are Specialist Registrars are responsible jointly, under the direction of the consultants, for the dedicated Out-Patients and wards for patients in the Transplant directorate.

They are responsible for the supervision and teaching of the other junior Specialist Registrars and SHO's in their duties. He/she will normally be required to attend 2/3 outpatient clinics per week, ward rounds of firms to which they have specific responsibility and weekly directorate meetings.

Job responsibilities

The Middle Grade doctors are Specialist Registrars are responsible jointly, under the direction of the consultants, for the dedicated Out-Patients and wards for patients in the Transplant directorate.

They are responsible for the supervision and teaching of the other junior Specialist Registrars and SHO's in their duties. He/she will normally be required to attend 2/3 outpatient clinics per week, ward rounds of firms to which they have specific responsibility and weekly directorate meetings.

The Specialist Registrars provide a second in line contact when On Call on a 1 in 7 rota resident until 9pm daily with availability by telephone thereafter.

The post is a busy one and the Specialty Registrar will obtain wide experience in the management of all types of end stage heart/lung failure, indications for thoracic organ transplantation, ICU care and long term follow up including immunosuppression, atypical infections and VAD.

The Specialist Registrar will be actively involved in the teaching CMT trainees and multidisciplinary teaching sessions, including Simulation Technology enhanced learning.
