We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative, and progressive researcher to join our team. The appointee will significantly contribute to the design and delivery of the ELPIS Research for Patient Benefit Project. This is a joint project with University of Birmingham and is open to both medics and non-medics. The post will be expected to work across all SWB sites as well as the University of Birmingham. Applicants should demonstrate within their application that they are research experienced in an NHS setting and have undertaken Good clinical Practice Training.
This Job is for fixed term of 16 months starting as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job
This post is suitable for those who have completed either core medical training- (medical professional/health and social care) or are an experienced allied health professional (nurse, midwife, healthcare scientist, cardiac physiologist, pharmacist etc), and have undertaken a PhD. This post provides an opportunity of conducting research in a fast paced multi-disciplinary team within intensive care. The candidate will be jointly mentored and supervised by Dr. Diridis and Associate Professor Efstathiou.
The appointee with be part of The ELPIS study research team, participate in the methodological design of the study, writing protocols, collecting research data and present outputs from research. The appointee will explore with family members their experience regarding withholding/withdrawing of life-sustaining treatments and the subsequent death of their relative. Examine (any) psychological impact to family members because of involvement in end-of-life decision-making and how they were managed and supported.
Develop a theoretical supportive care model for family members participating in end-of-life decision making and withholding/withdrawing life-sustaining treatment discussions in ICU
Office accommodation, along with access to computer facilities and administrative support, will be available. The appointee will need to be based at both SWB and University of Birmingham sites.

Job responsibilities
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below:
a) To approach and conduct interviews with family members and describe how family members experience the operationalisation of withholding/withdrawing of life-sustaining treatments process and death and dying
b) To examine (any) psychological impact to family members as a consequence of involvement in end-of-life decision-making and how they were managed and supported
c) To contribute to the development of a theoretical supportive care model for family members participating in end-of-life decision making and withholding/withdrawing life-sustaining treatment discussions in ICU
d) Contribute to the methodological design of the research project, advising on appropriate design and analysis and supporting writing study protocols
e) Contribute to writing bids for research funding to support a developing research programme in clinical decision support tools for improving patient safety. You will also be encouraged to apply for Fellowship funding
f) Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as literature reviews, research interviews, survey research, and analysis of data-sets
g) Analyse and interpret data
h) Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
i) Undertake management/administration arising from research
j) Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
k) Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader
l) Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
m) Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture
