Nottingham CityCares Childrens Public Health 0-19 Nursing Service is excited to be expanding the number of Children and Young People Support Workers within their integrated team.

Our aim is to offer a responsive service to meet the holistic public health needs of children, young people and families in order to give every child in Nottingham City the best start in life.

As part of the team, you will support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and contribute to the delivery of universal public health messages, supporting the health and well-being of infants, children and their families in homes and community settings across Nottingham City.

Main duties of the job

The role of a Children and Young Peoples Support Worker involves assessing the health and development of infants and children at 9-12 months, 2-2.5 years and 3 years 4 months (Pre-School READY Review) and National Child Measurement Programme alongside supporting with the delivery of health promotion groups. Enabling early identification of health and developmental needs, providing evidence based health promotion messages in line with local and national policy, empowering parents and carers to support their childs health and wellbeing.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

  • To support in the delivery of universal public health promotion, supporting the health and well-being of babies and children and their families in Nottingham City.
  • Provide additional clinical support to the Children's Public Health 0-19 Nursing service by contributing to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (DH, 2023).
  • Deliver public health services to families in the home, clinic settings and community groups

Dimensions

  • To work under the direction of a Clinical Service Manager, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and other team members and be integral to the Children's Public Health 0-19 Nursing Service.
  • The post holder will work as part of a geographical skill mix team to support the delivery of high-quality public health services to children and their families in Nottingham City.
  • Organise and complete delegated work effectively.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required for maintenance of an effective and efficient service

Key Responsibilities

Quality and Performance

  • Undertake universal Healthy Child Programme developmental reviews and deliver public health messages as delegated.
  • Ability to contribute towards achieving Key Performance Indicators.
  • Support the delivery of groups and clinics e.g., Baby Clinics, Breastfeeding group, First Foods and Milk to Meals groups.
  • To undertake, assess and record growth measurements of babies and children, during developmental reviews and National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP). Providing universal healthy lifestyle information as required.
  • To be flexible as required in supporting the Childrens Public Health 0-19 Nursing Service across the City.
  • Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required within the remit of the role.
  • Support the skill mix team to maintain an appropriate learning environment to meet the educational and developmental needs of new starters, student nurses and other learners as required.
  • Support in health promotion activities in all settings e.g., during health promotion weeks throughout the year.
  • To undertake referrals to specialist services under the direction of the lead practitioner.
  • To maintain contemporaneous healthcare records using SystmOne in line with local and national and policies and procedures.
  • Work using own initiative within the limitations of the role; always promoting high quality care and Nottingham CityCares Values and Behaviours.

  • Work in accordance with Nottingham City Local Safeguarding Children's Board procedures.
  • Provide and receive routine information, orally, in writing or electronically in line with Nottingham CityCare policy and abiding by legal requirements.
  • Complete all appropriate records/documents in a clear, accurate and timely way, participating in reporting processes and audit processes as necessary.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload under the supervision of senior members of the team.
  • To demonstrate empathy, compassion, and the ability to reassure.
  • Be sensitive to the needs of children, young people and their carers who may have communication problems, where English is not the first language or understanding is limited, identify appropriate resources to optimise understanding for parents/carers and children.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain an accurate electronic diary in accordance with lone working policy and adhere to mobile working guidance.
  • At all times ensure that own actions support and promote equality, diversity, and the rights of patients, the public and colleagues within the health care environment.

Knowledge, Training and Experience

  • To attend mandatory and essential training sessions as defined by Nottingham CityCare Partnership.
  • To understand CityCare policies and procedures related to your clinical role.
  • To attend safeguarding supervision on a regular basis in accordance with Nottingham CityCare Partnership guidelines.
  • To receive annual review and personal development planning to promote achievement of individual, team and organisational objectives.
  • Complete a comprehensive competency package through observation, reflection and supervised practice

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in a healthcare or childcare-related area or holds significant previous experience
  • Good numeracy and literacy to GCSE level (A-C / 9-4) or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Educated to Degree Level in a childcare-related area.

Special Requirements

Essential

  • Ability to be flexible over hours worked within contracted hours to meet the needs of the service
  • Full driving licence and the ability to travel between locations.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • A good standard of both written and spoken English
  • An ability to use Microsoft Office programmes, including MS Outlook and MS Word.
  • An understanding of the Healthy Child Programme (Department of Health, 2023).
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Childhood Development.
  • Is able to demonstrate evidence of contributing to producing care records.
  • Evidence of understanding of confidential and sensitive issues including GDPR and data protection legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to demonstrate the 6Cs in daily practice.
  • An ability to plan and organise own workload and any delegated work within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate ability to use initiative.

Desirable

  • Experience of using electronic healthcare record keeping systems and of contributing to updating patient records.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a healthcare or childcare setting with a minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Experience of working in a skill mix team with a minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Experience of carrying out delegated work

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a primary care setting.
