Job summary

The post-holder will join the friendly and enthusiastic clinical team based at the Princess of Wales Hospital as a Senior Clinical Fellow covering general paediatrics.

The post holder will participate on an On-call rota.

Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Conducting daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward, Neonatal Unit and report to the consultant in charge.

Supervision to Junior medical team and acts as a source of advice and support to the nursing staff.

See Patients in Emergency Department when required based on clinical and team situations.

To carry out safeguarding medical examinations when adequately trained.

Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.

See new and follow up general Paediatric patients in the clinics under supervision of consultant.

Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the children's service.

Managing the acute paediatric assessments working alongside clinical team with consultant support.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible to the Clinical Director of Child and Family Care Group.

During normal working hours the consultant supervision will be provided by the consultant assigned to the general Paediatric Wards, the Neonatal Unit, Paediatric Assessment Unit and the outpatient clinics.

Out-of-hours the consultant on-call provides support and supervision. The post-holder will be expected to have the skills and experience to competently manage neonates and children presenting acutely unwell and Paediatric emergencies. The post should engage with the consultant on-call for additional support as needed.

Qualifications

Essential

  • o Full GMC registration o MB, BS or equivalent o MRPCH part 1 a & b

Desirable

  • MRCPCH or equivalent oRelevant higher degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years or equivalent postgraduate training two of which must be in Paediatrics. o NLS provider o EPLS or APLS Provider

Desirable

  • Experience of multi-agency working. o Leadership skills. o Experience in other areas relevant to child health e.g. general practice, child mental health, obstetrics, public health

Ability

Essential

  • Able to keep good medical notes. o Good written and oral communication skills o Able to demonstrate understanding and willingness to work without immediate supervision, but with an awareness of one's individual limitations. o Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively o Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team o Understanding of child safeguarding

Desirable

  • Demonstrate ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team o Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively e.g. report writing, thesis o Level 1- 3 child protection training

Audit

Essential

  • Participate clinical audit and quality improvement projects o Familiar with Research methodology

Desirable

  • Presentation at Regional meetings. o Formal research training

Managment

Essential

  • Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS. o Understanding of management issues including medical discipline, clinical governance and service planning o Willingness to lead service developments

Desirable

  • Shows interest and demonstrated ability o Demonstrate ability to manage e.g. project work, mentoring staff

Teaching

Essential

  • Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors. o Willingness to teach medical undergraduates. o Participation in departmental teaching

Desirable

  • Organisation of further training programmes in medical education. o Formal training in teaching methods o Demonstrate ability in teaching and training
