Nodal Point - 4 - £55,329 p.a excl. of LZ (pro rata)

Full Time - 40 hours per week

Fixed Term - 6 months

Applications are invited for a post in the Clinical oncology department at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital. This post is available from March 2024 onward for a period of six months.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in oncology and having involvement in our new high profile Cancer Centre. Our department is well-recognized for its provision of specialist Oncology training. These posts do not have educational support for specialist training, but here are exciting educational opportunities, including involvement in clinical trial research, audit, appraisal, and provision for study leave to be taken.To be considered for this role, MRCP or equivalent is desirable as is oncology experience. You will need to have passed the IELTS exam.

Main duties of the job

Specific purpose of the post:

  • The post will be largely outpatient or day unit based to ensure safe administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiotherapy.
  • To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
  • To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
  • The post holder is required to follow Trust policies and procedures which are regularly updated

Duties and responsibilities:

The postholder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Oncology services at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust which would include:

  1. Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust such as in hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
  2. Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
  3. The bulk of the role will be in oncology outpatients or day unit.
  4. The postholder may participate in the hospital at night cover and oncalls. They will be expected to carry the tumour phone during working hours and take part in the tumour phone rota. They will also participate in ward based cover system approximately 1 in 8-10 weeks.

Department InformationOncology clinical directorate is within the Guys and St Thomas Hospital NHS Foundation trust (GSTFT). The department is internationally distinguished for its commitment to research & development and constantly strives for excellence through dedication and innovation. Oncology at GSTFT has entered a new and exciting phase with astate of the art cancer centre on the Guys site. The Cancer Centre at GuysHospital opened in September 2016, this provides a single point for bothdiagnosis and treatment. This centre will be the hub for South East Londonproviding specialist cancer services, training, development and research and allowing for better treatment and improved outcomes for patients. Main place of employment:The post will be based at the Guys and St Thomas Site. However, it is arequirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at anyadditional or different location owned or served by the trust, either on an ongoing or temporary basis according to the demands of the service. This could sites across Guys and St Thomass or Queen Marys Sidcup, QueenElizabeth Woolwich, Princess Royal Hospital, Kent or other hospitals withinour cancer service.

Clinical Governance:All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governanceactivity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol developmentand clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence oftheir contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work aspart of their appraisal.

Mutual Obligation to Monitor Hours:There is a contractual obligation on employers to monitor working hoursthrough robust local monitoring arrangements supported by national guidance,and on individual doctors to co-operate with those monitoring arrangements.

European Working Time Directive (EWTD):All posts and working patterns are under constant review in line with EWTDguidelines

Educational Programme:Neither the London Deanery not the Royal College of Physicians accreditsthis post for postgraduate training. However the postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities e.g. departmental meetings, xray meetings, pathology meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubsetc. Study leave and budget are available.

Appraisal:All medical and dental staff are required to undertake appraisal.

Previous Experience
