Job summary

Launceston Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Administrator / Read Coder to join our team.

The Medical Centre is moving toward becoming a paper-light environment, and the main responsibilities of the post holder will be to summarise and Read Code relevant information from patient's clinical records into the Practice clinical computer system, working strictly in accordance with the Practice notes summarising protocol. To provide efficient and high-quality clinical coding service to support the Practice needs by ensuring accurate translation and input of medical terminology.

Main duties of the job

  • Read coding data on SystmOne
  • Extracting the required data from clinical correspondence and inputting the data into the patients electronic healthcare record.
  • Coding all secondary care (hospital) letters.
  • Code results and upload data as required
  • Appropriate handling of safeguarding letters and reports.
  • Be able to prioritise tasks and work as part of a team.
  • Filing and maintaining systems thereof.
  • To assist with the gathering of statistics.
  • Opening and distribution of post and other clerical and administrative duties as required.
  • Scan all information received into the Practice onto patients records and assign to the appropriate clinician.
  • Organise completion of medical records via GPs.
  • Transfer of records.
  • GP2GP updates and coding of new patient records.
  • Photocopying insurance medicals and reports and maintaining record books and files thereof.
  • Tasks for the medical secretarial team with appropriate training.
  • Be flexible and willing to cover other departments within the Practice with appropriate training.

Launceston Medical Centre is a busy and committed team who work together in a recently refurbished and extended Practice, close to the beautiful beaches of North Cornwall and surrounded by countryside Moorland.

Our team consists of 6 GP Partners, 9 Salaried GPs, 6 Paramedics, 2 Minor Illness Nurses, 4 Practice Nurses, Trainee Nurse Associate and HCAs as well as experienced Management, IT, Reception and Administration support.

Additional allied professionals who work within our team are our Clinical Psychology team, physiotherapists and Social Prescriber. We are also a Dispensing Practice, with an experienced team of Pharmacy Technicians, Dispensers and Dispensary Clerks. We are also proud to be a training Practice.

We also run out own Primary Care Network - Launceston and Tamar Valley PCN alongside our neighbourhood Practice, Tamar Valley Health and use our resources for the benefit of the whole community inclusively. Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Review all incoming correspondence and enter, using read coders, pertinent information on to the patients electronic medical record in accordance with the coding protocol.
  • Organise the medical record and harmonise the problem titles. Group symptoms development and assign the appropriate status to medical information.
  • Review medical records and produce accurate summaries of the patients medical history.
  • Highlight clinical action and workflow to the appropriate clinicians or team as per the workflow protocol.
  • Code medical records of newly registered patients.
  • Extract the required data from clinical correspondence and input data into the patients electronic medical record.
  • Support team members with the use of the clinical system.
  • Collate the required data for reporting purposes.
  • Maintain effective security of data at all times.
  • To attend training where applicable, and ensure all mandatory training is kept up to date, including safeguarding and child protection.
  • Manage and prioritise a multitude of different requests under pressure.
  • Provide administrative support to members of the Primary Health Care Team.
  • Updating patients records (including changes in personal information, immunisation status etc).
  • Processing online triage forms that get sent to the Medical Secretary / Coding team.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide support to patients to complete online triage forms.
