Job summary

The Clinical Lead for Children's Physiotherapy is responsible for managing and developing the service, which provides physiotherapy across community settings in North Lancashire, promoting a learning culture and demonstrating leadership and innovation.

The children's physiotherapy team is part of an Integrated Children's Nursing and Therapy Team (ICNT) and the post holder will leads in the specified clinical area(s) with advanced knowledge, skills and experience to advise and support staff on managing complex clinical issues for theICNT site service and at the other ICNT sites as required.

The post holder ensures that children and young people receive a safe and effective Physiotherapy Service. Overseeing the department's management and development, the post holder takes responsibility for an existing committed team. The service has a reputation for developing enthusiastic physiotherapists and excellent multi-disciplinary work.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will work independently as an autonomous practitioner within the specified advanced clinical area(s) responsible for managing a caseload of patients with complex conditions appropriate to advanced knowledge and skill level and experience: providing flexible and patient centred programmes of Physiotherapy interventions.

  • Leads in the specified clinical area(s) with advanced knowledge, skills and experience to advise and support staff on managing complex clinical issues for the Integrated Children's Nursing and Therapy Team (ICNT) site service and at the other ICNT sites as required.

  • Contributes to service improvement and development in the specified clinical area(s) in response to evidence base practice and national clinical guidelines.

  • Provides leadership for therapy staff and students working in the ICNT service through team leadership, supervision, appraisal and development process, performance management and preceptorship.

  • Leads clinical audits, undertakes designated research and projects.

  • To lead on implementing service improvement and developments for the Trust.

  • Flexible working in other clinical areas to support physiotherapy service delivery using physiotherapy core knowledge and skills.

  • The post holder will undertake clinical and department support duties.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
