St Clare Hospice is a local charity and each year we care for hundreds of people across West Essex and the East Hertfordshire border. We provide free, compassionate care and support to adults who are living with a life-limiting illness, facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement.
We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and visionary manager to join our team as the Manager of our 8-bedded Inpatient Unit. We are looking for an experienced manager with strong leadership skills who is dynamic, focused and who puts excellent patient care at the centre of all they do.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To
have responsibility for the provision of specialist palliative nursing services
to meet the individual needs of patients on the IPU, ensuring that care is
safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led.
To
develop and lead the strategic direction of St Clare Hospice IPU to ensure that
we are being responsive to patient need within the area that we cover.
To
be accountable for defining and ensuring that agreed professional standards are
reflected in practice within the nursing team.
To
be accountable for the overall management of the nursing team, recruitment,
deployment, and supervision of staff ensuring the co-ordination of all services
provided to the patients.
To
provide professional visible leadership implementing strong models of
leadership and care based around the St Clare values framework.
To
work in collaboration with other service managers internally and externally to
ensure an integrated approach to care at all times.
To
be committed to a model of quality improvement at all times, being active in
leading within the hospice clinical audit group and any research relevant to
their scope of practice or delivery.
To
optimise the cost-effective use of all IPU resources.
To
identify the core and extended competencies required by clinical staff and
develop an evidenced based education programme to support IPU staff to achieve
them.
To
coach, support and motivate staff to deliver optimal care at all times.
To
ensure all team members subscribe and commit to the appraisal and personal
development plans model used within the hospice, supporting their development
and the attainment of all hospice strategies or objectives.

- Extensive experience of leading and managing a team within a health or social care setting.

Qualifications
Essential
- Qualification in palliative care or willingness to undertake.
- Advanced Communication course or willing to undertake.
Desirable
- 1st Level Registered nurse OR Registered Allied Health Professional with a current professional registration.
- Teaching qualification and experience of mentoring students and staff.
Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of Care Quality Commission Regulations and requirements.
- A good understanding of the vision, mission, values and strategy of St Clare Hospice.
Desirable
- Knowledge and experience of Palliative and End of Life Care.
