GHC are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for existing healthcare support workers to enrol to the Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship with Gloucestershire University and progress towards achieving registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Nursing Associate.

The Nursing Associate is a highly trained generic support role within the field of nursing which acts as a 'bridge' between unregulated Healthcare Assistants (HCA) and Registered Nurses. Nursing Associates work under the leadership and direction of Registered Nurses to deliver care based on agreed plans.

Nursing Associates will have the breadth of knowledge and a flexible, transferable skill set to serve the health needs of local communities, covering both the full life span and a range of care settings.

Nursing Associates need to be adaptable, reliable, and consistent. In addition, they are required to demonstrate resilience, self-awareness and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

The Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship develops Healthcare Assistants to advance into Registered Nursing Associates and to achieve the Foundation Degree in Nursing Associate Practice with the University of Gloucestershire.

Over the twenty-four-month apprenticeship successful candidates will be employed by Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Trust as a Student Nursing Associate apprentice and enrolled to the Foundation Degree in Nursing Associate Practice with The University of Gloucestershire.

The programme incorporates face to face learning and will comply with the NMC education standards and apprenticeship rules to ensure a high-quality education and learning experience.

The Student Nursing Associate apprentice will also participate in placement rotation to experience working in other healthcare services to gain a wide appreciation of health and care settings.

On successful completion of the programme the Student Nursing Associate apprentice will be able to apply for a Registered Nursing Associate position within Cirencester Hospital.

About us

At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.

Our Staff Survey results showed people at our Trust feel they are engaged, part of a team and work for a compassionate and inclusive organisation.

Our overall scores were better than average in eight of nine themes and level in one - the best overall results for a community, mental health and learning disabilities Trust in the south west and first equal amongst all sector NHS providers within the region too.
