Job summary

In Portsmouth we are proud to be at the forefront of integrated multi-agency work with neurodiverse (ND) children and their families. As a national trailblazer, we will shortly be launching our new Multidisciplinary Neurodiversity Service. This brings together experts from a range of fields to provide universal and targeted information, advice and guidance.

This exciting new role will give you the opportunity to be part of our work alongside a range of professionals with ND expertise in the city. You will offer consultation to professionals, and assessment, advice and therapeutic intervention to young people and their families. You will foster close relationships with colleagues in Education, Health and Social Care, children and their families to ensure we understand and meet the challenges they face when children have additional needs.

As well as meeting the person specification, we will be looking for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about Neurodiversity and what the team is setting out to achieve. We are also keen to employ someone who already champions the principles and values of the ND MDT service:

Main duties of the job

*The Neurodevelopmental Practitioner will work within the Neurodiversity Multidisciplinary Team to assess children and young people for neurodevelopmental differences i.e., ADHD and ASD, and to provide post assessment guidance and therapeutic intervention to family and networks as per need.

*Uses clinical judgement in relation to the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients, undertaking a range of clinical actions including developmental assessment, school observation/liaison and individual observation of the child.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by July 2024.Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on 1st July 2024. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

Job responsibilities

*Undertake assessment of children and young people where there are concerns regarding Neurodevelopmental presentations

*Undertaking a detailed health history following an agreed format

*To compile Neurodevelopmental reports using the service report format and taken to the Neurodevelopmental supervision group for case discuss around potential Neurodevelopmental diagnosis

*Following clinical supervision undertake further assessment in line with local policies and procedures.

*Review assessments within the Neurodevelopmental supervision group

*With support from clinical supervisor make diagnosis and formulate treatment/management plans.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Nationally recognised core qualification i.e., RN, RMN, Social work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, IAPT

Desirable

  • Evidence of post registration courses / CPD evidence at a post grad level (not necessarily masters level)
  • Specific training with regards to assessment of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD I.e. ADOS, QB

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children who have a neurodevelopmental disorder such as ASD and ADHD
  • Experience of undertaking detailed health history and assessments.
  • Experience of working assertively with a hard to engage client group.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of children, adolescents and their families/carers across the whole range and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
