Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and driven Registered Mental Health Nurse to become part of our busy and friendly Research Department team within Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be working within the Research Department to support the delivery of high quality health and social care studies within the Mental Health Division. Our research team plays a vital role in setting up research studies to take place at SHFT, recruiting patients and carers to take part, and ensuring the smooth running of clinical trials in the research facility.

The successful applicant would also have a key role in supporting delivery of later phase research trials and administering the assessments for both physical and mental health participants. A comprehensive induction and training programme (including training and support to develop specialist assessment skills) will be offered.

The post holder will have a specialist knowledge in mental health enabling them to work independently and will autonomously assist in the management of clinical trial patients, whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team led by the trial Principal Investigators. The post holder will be working within a large team of staff based within the department at Tom Rudd Unit in Moorgreen Hospital supporting both commercial and non-commercial portfolio research activity throughout the organisation.

Main duties of the job

Research is a critical component of successful NHS provider organisations, ensuring that clinical practice is based upon the latest evidence, and that all patients treated, and service users supported by Southern Health, receive the opportunity to take part in research.

It is also a key element of the continuing development of staff, providing stimulating opportunities for professional and personal growth.

The post holder will support the set up, delivery, and closing of research studies across mental health portfolio. This will include meeting with clinical teams, recruiting participants, and completing study measures and administration.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Professional health or social services (RMN) qualification and registration OR education to degree level OR equivalent in depth research experience
  • *Evidence of ongoing, relevant professional development portfolio

Experience

  • *Demonstrable reputation for professional excellence.
  • *Experience facilitating safe and affective mental health services.
  • *Evidence of commitment to and track record in delivering recovery orientated services.
  • *Demonstrable ability to understand and manage significant portfolio of resources
