Band 5 Special School Nurse. Special School Nursing Service Surrey

Would you like to be part of a team which ensures all children and Young People are supported to reach their full potential.

Based in a school for Children and Young People with severe learning disabilities and complex health needs, you will be valued as part of the wider, County wide Special School Nursing service.

We ask that you have a minimum of 1 years post registration clinical experience of working with children/young people with learning disability and additional health needs.

Base: Woodlands School

37.5 hours 5 days a week - Monday to Friday term time only.

You will bring your energy and innovation to foster a culture focused on improving health outcomes to children and young people within this setting. Your innovation will enable all 8 teams to work in parallel ensuring best practice is followed.

Main duties of the job

Responding to medical emergencies

Training educational staff in nursing procedures including gastrostomy, seizure managementand ventilation (full training for mechanical ventilation is given supported by our Childrens Continuing Care Team within our specialist community childrens nursing service).

Medication management

Attending multi agency meetings

Care planning

Report writing

Nurse led clinics (Downs Syndrome, sleep, desensitisation, early toileting)

Participation in clinical and safeguarding supervision

Participation in auditing

Participation in EHCP meetings.

Responsible for: Healthcare Assistant.

Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the provision of health care for children and young people, aged 2-11 years, with severe/profound and multiple learning and physical difficulties.

This will be achieved by providing expert training, advice and support to the school staff and other people involved in their care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • RN child / RSCN/ RN adult RN LD with experience with children/learning disability.

Experience

  • Clear understanding of community health services Minimum of 1 year post registration experience with children or learning disability Evidence of professional development Experience of participating in clinical audit Good understanding of current nursing workforce issues Reliable and Flexible Team player Ability to work well in stressful situations Innovative Assertive Car driver

Desirable

  • Consolidated clinical nurse training and experience of caring for sick children/young people for 1 year post qualification Experience of tracheostomy ventilation, gastrostomy care, epilepsy Evidence of broad clinical experiences Mentorship preparation (supervisor assessor) Management/leadership qualification. Experience of working in community health setting children or learning disability
