Main duties of the job

To provide specialist psychological input to children and young people presenting with complex mental health difficulties.

To be a part of the senior leadership team and support with team priorites such as waiting list, treatment times, supervision, etc.

To provide Clinical Discussion/ reflective practice Groups for the team.

To offer staff support and consultation to members of the wider team where your expertise is required.

About us

Starting with NELFTNELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex. This will follow another 2 weeks of robust local induction with us in Southend.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work alongside the Clinical Lead and Team Manager to help support the delivery of psychological support across the service. They will be responsible for assessment, treatment and systematic outcome measurement and provide clinical supervision of staff. The post holder will be accountable for their own professional actions and will work within professional ethics & NELFT NHS Trust Policies.As a senior clinician within the service, you will bring highly developed knowledge of specialist therapeutic assessment, formulation and intervention skills and specific knowledge and expertise in psychological interventions.This post would suit someone with a strong interest in working with young people who present with complexity and significant levels of distress, working with the wider systems including education, social care and family/carers.

This post is eligible for the Trust 'Welcome to NELFT' Payment, a lump sum of 10% of agreed basic salary (pro rata if part time and exclusive of HCAS payments) (subject to a minimum of £4,000 and maximum of £10,000) and is open to all new applicants who are successfully appointed. Payment of the incentive is 50% of the lump sum at the end of the probationary period (typically six months) and then 50% at the end of year two. This welcome package is applicable to external candidates only.

Candidates should be aware that welcome payments are subject to a compulsory 2 year employment period within the role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training or equivalent in Clinical / Counselling Psychology
  • HCPC registration

Desirable

  • Supervision Training

Experience

Essential

  • Working within Clinical Health Psychological Services, or experience of delivering psychological therapy in physical health services
  • Experience working with mental health issues and risk
  • Experience working managing a caseload and clinical throughput
  • Experience of delivering psychological therapy to children and Young people and presenting problems, reflecting the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of various presentations, various ages, various settings within the NHS.

Desirable

  • Working within CAMHS teams
  • Experience of training and/or supervision.

Knowledge

Essential

  • An awareness of variety of mental health disorders including neurodiversity and the necessary tools and skills to treat these.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for working psychologically with Children and young people

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Level 2 training and supervision

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and competence when presented with complex ,emotive and distressing problems
  • Good knowledge of SystmOne or other Electronic Patient Recording system and clinical functions related to this such as risk planning, clinical harm reviews and care planning
  • Ability to work with autonomy and flexibility within the bounds of the job description and professional competence.
  • Ability to provide supervision for junior colleagues and facilitate reflective practice
