Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our Acute Medical Hub at Morriston Hospital!

The Acute Medical Hub consists of an Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) area. The former features a 14-trollied acute assessment area and a 33-bedded short stay zone, accepting medical patients via GP referral, the ambulance service and the emergency department. SDEC provides care to ambulatory patients with same day turnaround. All areas are integrated and purpose-built to provided high-quality patient flow, transfer and treatment. Unlike most clinical areas in Morriston Hospital, our front-of-house facility is supported by integrated diagnostics, therapies and a pharmacy hub, therefore offering streamlined patient assessment and care. You'll become an integral part of our enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

This busy unit is highly rewarding to individuals who are motivated, demonstrate a passion for acute medicine and adapt well to fast-paced environments. No two shifts are the same, and you are guaranteed to garner experience in nursing individuals presenting with a range of acute medical conditions, from DKA to gastrointestinal bleeds! By joining our friendly and highly-supportive team, you will have opportunity to assist with all aspects of the acute medical admission, from initial triage and medical assessment, investigation and treatment, to safe transfer and discharge (aimed to be achieved within 48 hours of admission). In doing so, you will be offered a focused, competency-based preceptorship programme and work alongside our medical clinical educator to develop comprehensive nursing knowledge and clinical skills, and become adept nursing the acutely unwell patient. Job responsibilities

-Expected to carry out all relevant forms of care to meet the needs of theindividual.-Responsible for assessing care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating program's of care.-Ensure the safety of the patient at all times by observing the proceduresand policies of the Health Board adheres to the NMC Code of Conduct andassociated advisory documents.

-May be required to demonstrate procedures and supervise qualifies / unqualified staff.- Communicate between the Nursing and Medical staff to relay informationnecessary to ensure that the patient receives the prescribed treatment and care.-Ensure that all changes in the patients condition are assessed, and acted on appropriately and reported to the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse or medical staff.
