Job summary
We have the following Clinical Fellow posts available in Paediatric Neurology:
- One post-holder will predominantly work within Acute/General Neurologyservice;
- One post will predominantly work within theNeurovascularservice (50% of time), alongside contribution to the Acute/General Neurology service;
- One post will predominantly work in the Neuromuscular service, with on-call contribution to the Acute/General Neurology service;
Trust Fellows are required to work at ST4+ equivalent level in the neuroscience department at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The individual in this post will be expected to work as part of the neurosciences team and provide care and assessment for acute neurology and neurosurgical in-patients and neurology day-cases. They will also contribute to hospital at night team rota (1 in 20). The children present with a large miscellany of neurological and neurosurgical disorders. The appointee will gain experience in the management of children pre and post neurosurgery, with traumatic brain injuries, brain tumours and complex epilepsy, including epilepsy surgery. They will acquire skills in the assessment, investigation and multidisciplinary management of chronic neurological disorders; and will quickly acquire skills in the assessment, investigation and management of acute neurological disorders such as stroke, encephalitis, seizures and acute motor disorders.
Main duties of the job
The post provides in-patient experience of a large miscellany of neurological and neurosurgical problems. It is envisaged that the trainee will rotate over a 6 month period equally through the specialties of neurosurgery, acute neurology and planned admissions. The appointee will gain expertise in the management of the acutely sick child with neurosurgical and neurological disease. They will also gain experience in the management of children pre- and post-neurosurgery, see children with genetically determined and neurometabolic conditions, as well as be involved with the care of children admitted on the planned investigation unit. There are close working relationships with the Departments of neuroradiology, interventional radiology, neurophysiology and intra-operative monitoring, neuro-oncology, neuropathology and intensive care.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
