Job summary

Now is a particularly great time to be joining us. With recent changes to the Operating model at University Hospitals Birmingham, devolving power to the local hospital sites, removing red tape and making Good Hope Hospital an exciting and dynamic place of work.

We are seeking enthusiastic Geriatric Consultants to join our accomplished HCOP department and support our commitment to provide gold-standard care for older patients living with frailty. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and enhance the service, with opportunities of taking up leadership roles, service development and service delivery.

We pride ourselves on the excellent relationships between our clinical, nursing, therapies, management teams and support services. We also recognise the importance of maintaining specialist interests (PD, Continence, Falls, Frailty). To support this there is the opportunity for the successful candidate to receive a dedicated session to establish weekly OP clinics.

Main duties of the job

A 8.0 PA with 7 day senior led direct clinical activities; subspecialty work and associated administration; up to 1 PA for acute unselected medical on-call; prospective cover for colleagues annual and study leave.

2.0 PA Supporting activities to include:

CME/CPD/Appraisal/Revalidation

Clinical Governance/Audit

Service Development

Teaching

Educational supervision

Other Roles and Responsibilities

The on call commitment is for a 1:6 weekend on call commitment to General Medicine. Shifts include covering Acute take, supporting care on the Acute Medical Unit and covering medical wards, depending on the shift of on call and consultants are expected to be on site during the on-call period.

Job responsibilities

As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities are the following:

The provision of a first-class clinical service for HCOP.

Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.

Sustaining and developing teaching and training

Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies

Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans

Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Entered on the GMC Register, CCST in geriatric and general internal medicine or equivalent within 6 months of interview.
