Midwifery and Maternity services are provided in hospitals, community clinics, private clinics and as part of outreach/home-based services. In hospitals, midwifery and maternity services involve antenatal education and care, obstetric services, preparation of birthing suites, assistance in childbirth, and postnatal care, including education and integration of other services. Hospitals also provide specialist neo-natal care in critical care nurseries, and paediatric intensive care in PICU. Midwifery and maternal child health services in the community may involve antenatal clinics, home-birthing, outreach midwifery and nursing services, and postnatal community clinics or home-visits for mothers and their developing babies.
